I am planning to study in Australia . I got admission for BTech in Swinburn University . Now a days News paper reports in India about Australia are scary . Can some one living in Australia give me an honest opinion on how safe Australia is for Indian students especially girls. I have no relatives in Australia so I have to be myself . Is there any Indian organisations helping Indian students ? I am from Kerala . Any Malayali Samajam or something like that

Your post was interesting and your concerns are expressed by many .  Australia is safe for you as long as you dont want to drive a cab and you dont frequent night clubs . It is dangerous, if you are some who would like to walk around at midnight . Otherwise Australia is safe . 95% percentage of the attacks happened at mid night . It is not really a racial attack . Because the attackers are not whites in all the cases . In  some cases they are Chinese or even Africans . Now a days it is more or less copy cat attacks.

It is interesting to see that you are expecting some sort of help from Indian organisations . You wont get any such help . BTW  I am from Trichur . Malayali Samajam in Melbourne is a forum for a bunch of low births to act like big fellas .

If you want any help you can contact me at karun_nair@yahoo.com

Students are not supposed to work full time when the uni is in session . Maximum 20 hours are permitted . But during semester and summer break students can work full time . To get a job it is better register with recruitment agencies . Agencies like Staff Australia allows people to work full time throughout the year . I dont know how they are breaking the law .
